Lago Mar: The Longest U.S. Lagoon Hosts First Aquathon

11/18/2020

Inaugurated in July, Lago Mar remains the longest pure turquoise lagoon in the United States. Powered by Crystal Lagoons® technology, it is also the largest lagoon in Texas, and recently hosted its first aquathon including a 400-yard swim, followed by a 5k run.

The impressive 12-acre crystalline lagoon anchor a future 100-acre mixed-use entertainment district being built at Lago Mar and is equivalent to 14 NFL football fields, making it an ideal location for hosting sporting events such as triathlons and ironmans.

The start and finish lines were on the edge of the lagoon, and both racers and ticketed spectators were able to attend the amenities’ Oktober Lagoonfest celebration following the event. Activities at the lagoon during the rest of the day included food trucks, live music and a wide range of water sports from kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling to sailboats.

The lagoon has seen consistent sales success since opening over the summer, generating US$ 50.000 daily through entrance and membership fees, naming rights, corporate events, sponsorship, food and beverages, beach equipment and cabana rentals, etc.
